Biography

Blaine Labelle is a contemporary artist based in Brockville, Ontario, whose work explores themes of memory, duality, and connection. Originally from Sudbury, he draws inspiration from artists such as Jean Paul Lemieux, Amedeo Modigliani, and Francis Bacon, as well as his longtime friend Will Morin, whose influence can be felt in his work.

Blaine’s artistic journey began in 2005 under the mentorship of Andrea Mossop, whose philosophy and guidance profoundly shaped his artistic voice. Her teachings emphasize an approach rooted in authenticity...painting not to simply please the eye, but to reach for something deeper, where meaning and intention matter as much as technique. This principle became a foundation for Blaine’s own practice.

His work has been recognized with two Honourable Mentions in juried exhibitions at the Marianne Van Silfhout Gallery in Brockville, Ontario...one for his layered compositions and another for a pair of oil portraits. Both highlight his curiosity about image-making, shaped by the quiet discipline of printmaking…where figures are suggested rather than fully defined.
